About These Projects

Over the years, I've designed and built play spaces for multiple Austin-area schools. These projects range from natural playscapes using organic materials to custom-built wooden playground structures—all built by hand with attention to safety, durability, and connection to nature.

Play spaces shape how children experience the outdoors. These aren't just structures—they're environments that foster imagination, physical development, and a child's early relationship with the natural world.

The best playgrounds don't feel like equipment. They feel like places kids discover, explore, and make their own. That's what we aim for with every school project.

Design Approach

Every school playground starts with the same question: what do the kids here actually need? The answer varies based on age groups, available space, existing landscape, and the school's educational philosophy.

Our playground projects prioritize:

  • Natural materials - Wood, stone, and native plants where possible
  • Safety without sterility - Meeting safety standards while preserving adventure and challenge
  • Integration with landscape - Play structures that feel like part of the environment, not dropped onto it
  • Durability - Built to withstand daily use by dozens of kids for years

Many of these structures are hand-built on site, allowing us to adapt to the specific terrain and needs of each school.

Why This Work Matters

School playground projects are some of the most personally meaningful work I do. There's something about creating a space where kids will play, imagine, and grow that connects directly to my mission of bringing humans back into relationship with nature.

  1. Kids learn through play - These spaces support physical and cognitive development
  2. Nature connection starts young - Natural playscapes introduce kids to the outdoors
  3. Community investment - Schools are anchors of neighborhoods, and quality outdoor spaces serve families
  4. Lasting impact - A playground built today will shape thousands of play experiences over its lifetime

If you're a school administrator, PTA member, or community organizer looking to develop or improve outdoor play spaces, I'd love to hear about your vision.
